We are very excited to share new pictures of our sustainable egg packaging, made with 100% recycled PET material. The containers are also 100% recyclable again. Egg packaging is a new category for Direct Pack, made possible by the combination of the recycled material from Direct Pack Recycling and our innovative Design & Engineering team.
Through Direct Pack Recycling, our reclaiming and reprocessing facility, we are able to close the loop on PET packaging and using it as an infinite resource. Using post-consumer recycled PET bottles and thermoformed PET packaging as raw material, we thermoform new containers that are made with 100% post-consumer content. This is great from a sustainability perspective, as recycled PET (rPET) has a much lower carbon footprint than virgin PET.
Some labels can create problems in the recycling stream. Especially paper labels and the wrong glue can stick to the PET packaging and contaminate the clean rPET flake. We highly recommend using wash-away BOPP labels, which easily and fully separate from the packaging during the sink-float process, making it 100% recyclable. We currently apply BOPP labels inline in our manufacturing, as seen in the picture below. If you are interested in learning more about this sustainable type of packaging, please contact us.
