We are thrilled to announce that we’re experiencing record growth of rPET in our manufacturing in 2020. Comparing the first three quarters of 2020 to the same period in 2019, we have doubled our rPET usage!
Never before, in our 12 year history of using post-consumer recycled PET in our take-out and produce containers, have we seen such a rapid increase.
This increase can be explained by two factors. One it that the demand for sustainable take-out packaging keeps growing. Our range of BOTTLEBOX® products, made of post-consumer recycled beverage bottles, is one of the most sustainable alternatives in the market, and demand keeps growing in all parts of the country.
The other factor is our acquisition of Direct Pack Recycling (DPR) in the beginning of 2020. DPR is our own recycling and reclaiming facility, which is able to process both recycled PET bottles and recycled PET thermoformed packaging like strawberry containers, clamshells and egg packaging. The clean flake that comes out of DPR is then used to make new packaging in our own extrusion and thermoforming facilities.
During the first 9 months of 2020, we have saved over 1.5 billion bottles from ending up in landfill, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions with 47.4 million pounds of CO2 equivalent. That is the same as taking 3,750 cars off the road this year!
We are grateful for all the support and interest we receive from our loyal customers and partners. Together we can make a difference and contribute to a more sustainable environment! And don’t forget to recycle your BOTTLEBOX® containers so they can be used again 😊.
