The International Coastal Cleanup day took place on September 15, 2018. Organized by the Ocean Conservancy in collaboration with local organizations like ECO-warriors, this event started 32 years ago in Texas. It has now grown to include over 100 countries across the world and 800,000 volunteers. Direct Pack employees, partners and family members participated in the California coastal cleanup all the way from Laguna Beach in the south to McKinleyville in the north. As strong advocates of all kinds of recycling, we are committed to help keep the oceans free of trash and contribute to a more sustainable environment.
After having been part of the LA River cleanup in the spring, participants were happy to see that the amount of trash on the beaches was much less than in the river. Most common were cigarette stubs, candy wrappers and bottle caps. There was also a surprisingly large number of glass bottles and some plastic bottles, which went into recycling bins. Each year the collected trash is weighed and recorded for statistical and research purposes, and you can download the 2018 Cleanup Report to read more about the results from last year.
