As the interest for sustainable solutions among our food service, supermarket and produce customers continues to grow, the demand for our BOTTLEBOX® containers made of post-consumer recycled PET plastic (rPET) increases. Thanks to the growing demand, we have increased our use of recycled PET by 21% in 2018.
That is good news for the environment, as rPET reduces the amount of greenhouse gases compared to regular PET. In the first six months of 2018, our products have helped reduce the greenhouse gases by 12.7 million pounds of CO2 equivalent. We have saved 476 million bottles from going to landfill or ending up in the ocean.
Since we started measuring our rPET use in 2011, we have used 4.1 billion bottles and saved 110 million pounds of CO2 equivalent.
